Welcome to this special issue of ACM Inroads, focused on practices in computer science education from various parts of the world. The specific trigger for this series of articles was the initiation of a global project, under the auspices of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the IEEE Computer Society and the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, toward developing an updated computing curriculum and a corresponding competency model. While it is important to have such guidelines to ensure appropriate standards on a global scale, it is also important to understand differences in context around the world, and what specific local challenges there may be. It seems undeniable that everyone's lives are touched and shaped by computing technologies in various ways; however, it is not obvious that these effects are uniform and universal. For this reason, we are very proud to present these articles on the practice of computing from various parts of the world. We hope you find this special issue of Inroads thought-provoking, stimulating, and inspiring.

As we move toward an enhanced understanding of global CS education, we are aware of the many challenges around diversity, equality and inclusion which face all educators. None of us can solve these issues on our own, but the hope is that by bringing the many geographically dispersed stories together, we can help to build understanding and respect for the ways they are being considered in different countries. We hope this special issue contributes to building greater understanding and support for computing education learning and research into the future, so technology can be better leveraged for global solutions.

The inspiration and driving force behind getting these articles together was the Special Issue Editor, Amruth Kumar, who has worked tirelessly to encourage submissions and shepherd them through to the outcome. Together with Raj Rajendra, we thank them for their work on coordinating the IEEE with the ACM for the CS2023 revision of the CS curricular guidelines. Special thanks go to the Inroads production team including Editorial Associate Susan Lukesh, Art Director Robert Vizzini and Executive Editor Diane Crawford, all of whom went above and beyond in accommodating variations on the usual production process. And, of course, we thank Scott Weiss for his skill and commitment in coming up with new material for the Back Page every issue. Thank you all very much!
